FAQ

  • Do tattoos hurt?

Pain is relative to size, placement, and an individual’s tolerance level. Most people would describe the pain of a tattoo as similar to a cat scratch.

The most painful spots to get tattooed include the top of the foot, ribcage, sternum, elbows, armpits and knees.

Our bodies are designed to release an array of hormones which help pain subside for a period of time, making the process more tolerable.

  • What aftercare products do you recommend?

You will walk away from your appointment with a tattoo wash and a small sample of tattoo aftercare cream. Your artist will discuss proper aftercare. Click here for more information.

We recommend unscented and non-petroleum-based products. Hustle Butter is our preferred aftercare ointment. Coconut Oil is also a fantastic alternative as it is anti-fungal, anti-microbial and super moisturizing.

  • Can I bring a friend to my appointment?

Of course! Guests are welcome to accompany you to your appointment but please try to limit it to 1 person as the space is small.

Children are welcome, but we can’t promise they wont be loaded with sugar and covered in tattoos when they leave! Please be discerning and consider whether your child will be able to tolerate being seated for the duration of your appointment.

  • What is your deposit/cancellation policy?

Deposits are non-refundable but may be transferred. You can transfer your deposit to another appointment date or to someone else in the form of a gift card. Any unclaimed deposits will be forfeited six months after the initial payment.

The cancellation of your appointment may result in forfeiting your deposit. We encourage you to give 48-hour notice to allow your artist adequate time to fill the spot. When given advanced notice, your deposit will be applied to your rescheduled appointment date.

  • What payments do you accept?

Rock & Rose Tattoo does not have a credit card processor. Cash payment is preferred, but electronic payments can be arranged on a case-by-case basis.

  • Should I tip my artist?

Tips are not expected but are always appreciated. A general guide-line would be 15-25%, like most other service industries.

  • Do you tattoo minors?

No. Tattooing a minor in the state of Virginia is illegal and considered a Class-1 misdemeanor.

  • What kind of ink do you use?

Rock & Rose uses vegan and organic inks; including Eternal, Dynamic, and Allegory.

  • What are your rates?

Our shop minimum is $80. The hourly rate is $200/hour.

  • Can I use numbing cream?

Yes! Please discuss with your artist if you plan on using a numbing cream to ensure proper use and application.
